This is how much we sit
Technological developments are major causes of this sitting behavior, or nicely put, sedentary behavior. Due to increasing use of PC, TV, tablet, smartphones and game consoles, we move less and less. Thus, many employees often sit more than 10 hours a day.
That starts with breakfast at the table. Then we sit in the car or train and then at our desk. Maybe we stand behind the pans for a while, but then it's already time to sit at the table. Then we plop down on the couch. Even on our days off, we sit for about 8 hours. It has become part of our lifestyle.
For your health we advise you to read this page standing up
Are you standing? Yes? A load off our minds! And yours.
Because sitting all day significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. You also run a greater risk of obesity, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression, Alzheimer's disease or even cancer. Even if you exercise every day. So these are already five reasons for choosing dynamic working. And then there is lower absenteeism, higher productivity and a better working atmosphere.
Sports do not compensate
So we sit a shocking amount. But what if you exercise regularly and bike to work? Then I'm moving, right, you might think?
You move, but not in the right way to avoid the health effects of prolonged sitting. You develop these because you sit for long periods at a time, putting your body in standby mode. Instead, it is all about regular movement, which means being in motion for two minutes every half hour. Even if it is just a walk to the toilet.
Dynamic work is healthy work
Alternating between sitting and standing and moving for two minutes every half hour is the way to prevent health problems. Dynamic work is what we call it. The secret lies in the leg and buttock muscles, the largest muscles in our body. The use of these muscles helps various (combustion) processes to get going. The brain receives more blood and oxygen, which releases all kinds of brain- and mood-enhancing substances. Both employers and employees are therefore happier with dynamic working. Markant makes dynamic working easy and pleasant with flexible office furniture and home office.

Working dynamically, this is how you make it happen
Dynamic workstations do not, of course, make an office healthy. The (correct) use of them does. And that stands or falls with the implementation. Our advice: start small. For example, by holding meetings while standing, preferably with a two-minute break every half hour. Choose a step-by-step introduction with only a few sit and stand workstations. Then slowly increase the number of sit-stand desks. In this way, healthy working remains interesting and is not an obligation.
Stand by Markant

How healthy is your workplace?
Are you still standing? Nice. Then look around your office. How many people are sitting in their chairs? And then look at the numbers. Could the absenteeism rates go down and productivity go up? Then this is the time to take the step to get your office moving.

Healthy work is more than just sufficient exercise
Healthy living means healthy working. In the workplace, all kinds of habits exist. Healthy habits like the 2 pieces of fruit you eat daily. Unhealthy habits like the amount of hours you may be sitting consecutively. Changing our habits can be complex. That's why we developed the Spring program, with which we teach your organization all about healthy working and habit change. Our coaches are happy to make time to introduce you to this program.
